DIY Dishsoap {With Essential Oils}
It always feels better to go the natural route when it comes to cleaners and soaps! Instead of buying store-bought dishwasher detergent with lots of harsh chemicals, you can just make your own.
Here’s what you need:
For the soap:
- 1 cup Castile soap (scent-free is usually best)
- 1 cup distilled water
- 10 drops Thieves essential oil
For the rinse:
- 1/2 to 1 cup vinegar
- 5-7 drops Lemon essential oil
To make the soap, add 1 cup of distilled water and 1 cup of castile soap to a bowl. Then add in your 10 drops of Thieves essential oil.
Mix all the ingredients together, and funnel into a glass jar. Alternatively, you can mix all 3 ingredients right into your jar, put the lid on, and shake.
While it might be tempting to use other brands of essential oils, Thieves has a blend of highly antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-infectious essential oils. This means it will kill anything on your dirty dishes, without using any synthetic chemicals!
To use this soap, simply add 1 to 2 tablespoons to your dishwasher compartment where your usual detergent goes.
For the rinse, mix 1 cup vinegar and 5-7 drops of lemon essential oil and add it to the closed compartment, which is usually used for rinsing. If you don’t have hard water you can just use the 1/2 cup of vinegar, otherwise use a full cup.
Run your dishwasher as you normally do and when it’s finished, you’ll have beautifully clean dishes without having to use any harsh chemicals! Whoohoo!
